These daylong seminars feature presentations and discussions on NYSTRS benefits, Social Security, financial planning, adjusting to retirement, legal considerations and other retirement-related topics. The purpose of the program is to focus on the questions and concerns that are important to those preparing for retirement. The seminars are open to all NYSTRS members. Spouses or companions are also encouraged to attend. Since seminar participants are provided with personalized benefit information, they will need to show photo identification at the seminar.

Pension & Retirement Education Program (PREP) NYSTRS' Pension and Retirement Education Program (PREP) is desined to help members of all ages prepare for retirement. PREP is structured to allow you to tailor the program to fit you needs. Stay for the entire seminar or just the modules that would be of greatest significance to you:
NYSTRS Benefits: Your pension, death benefits, and disability coverage. (8:45 - 9:45 am) Financial Planning: Tax-deferred investments - starting early and catching up later (10 - 10:30 am) Social Security: Benefits, eligibility rules, and collecting ASAP or at "normal" retirement age (10:30 - 11:00 am) Estate Planning: Wills, trusts, powers of attorney, health care proxies, and living wills (11 am - noon) Adjusting to Your New Life: Planning ahead, staying active and healthy, relocating (1 - 2 pm) Filing for Retirement: Resigning vs. retiring, choosing a retirement date, and benefite payment options (2 - 2:40 pm) Retirement Income: Monthly benefit payments, cost-of-living adjustments, and working in retirement (2:40 - 3 pm)
Below is the schedule of upcoming seminars. The seminars are held from 8:30 - 3 pm, with registration beginning at 8 am. There is no fee to attend and your spouse/companion is welcome to attend; however, advance registration is required. (Note: These seminars are not designed for individual retirement counseling.)

(If you don't already have an account, take a tour.) 2. By calling NYSTRS at (800)356-3128, Ext. 6180 weekdays between 8:30 am and 4:15 pm. Please provide your: - NYSTRS EmplID or Social Security number - Date of birth; and, - Home address and telephone number If your spouse/companion is attending and is also a member, please have the above information available for him/her as well. Please bring your most recent Benefit Profile to the seminar. If you make a reservation and subsequently cannot attend, please cancel by calling the number above or via your NYSTRS account so your place can be made available to another member.
